Setup of an OSD production as an ultra fast track project
Content:
Due to the positive results of a complementary clinical study, there was increasing demand for an OSD product.
In the short term, there was a demand for additional production capacity.
A project was launched.
From the concept study, detailed design, construction, commissioning, qualification, to the start of production (under cleanroom class D conditions), the project took only 17 months.
The investment volume amounted to approx. 30 million euros.
The new factory contains about 3200 m² of space distributed on 2 floors.
After the 1.5 to 2 year ramp-up phase of the product, in the new production facilities, the production equipment is transferred to another overseas location.
The flexible plant and building structure enables further use of the building after the equipment has been moved out.
The implementation of the project in the very demanding schedule was carried out by an interdisciplinary and highly motivated project team. The project posed major challenges for users, planners, contractors and equipment suppliers.
The project was completed on time and within budget and represents a milestone in project execution at Boehringer Ingelheim.
At the workshop, there will be an opportunity to see the building and equipment and their major ancillary components up close.
Boehringer Ingelheim is willing to share this experience with the ISPE network, thank you for that.
Non-members may also attend the workshop, members preferred.
