There are many life science events. However, a new trio recently got off to a successful and promising start in Ulm. At the event “Current Trends in Biomanufacturing”, the BioPharma Cluster South Germany, the international professional association ISPE D/A/CH – Germany, Austria, Switzerland D/A/CH and BioRegio STERN Management GmbH brought together leading experts from the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors on February 5 and 6.
The event organizers have focused on a highly topical aspect: How can the challenges of new modalities be solved through new production technologies? After all, cell and gene therapy require completely new approaches to production.
Goals of the organizers
Bringing together strong partners from biopharma, technology development and automation to develop cross-industry solutions. In the pre-competitive field, bridges were built from basic science and application-oriented research to case studies from industry and regulatory challenges.
Interaction and networking encouraged
The symposium was divided into three thematic sessions: New Modalities, Automation and Aseptic Manufacturing. Presentations were followed not only by a question-and-answer session, but also a moderated discussion with the speakers.
Despite a short preparation time, the premiere brought 100 participants to the Ulm Stadthaus, who rated the depth of content, interactivity and the opportunity for networking very positively.
Results
In an interview, the organizers Uwe Buecheler, PhD (BioPharma Cluster), Michelangelo Canzoneri (ISPE), and Klaus Eichenberg (BioRegio STERN) agreed that the combination of technological, regulatory and procedural perspectives has struck a chord with the industry.
A follow-up event with a further focus topic is therefore planned for March 2026 in order to further advance the current developments in biomanufacturing – stay tuned
